Although our Christmas plans may be uncertain this year, there is one thing we know for sure, we can gather around our dining tables and enjoy Christmas dinner with our households.
As we may be missing loved ones on December 25, we will be making our home dining experiences as festive and joyful as possible. Decorating your dining table is essential when hosting a festive feast, so we’ve created some Christmas table setting ideas and decorations to help you get started. View our Christmas table themes for inspiration, we have everything you need to ensure a beautiful Christmas.
How to lay a Christmas table
With so much of the festive season centred around food and drink, it’s no wonder Christmas dinner is a highlight for most of us and a big part of the celebrations. When planning your Christmas table, it is important to plan ahead and pick a theme. This year we are loving traditional touches with bold reds, greens and golds along with our Nature Inspired collection which brings the outdoors in!
To make the perfect Christmas table setting, start with a table cover. We think a white tablecloth is a great option for Christmas and will go with any theme. Pick a glitzy runner, personalise with a place card holder and finish off with table decorations and tableware.
Elegant Christmas table
To create an elegant Christmas table, go for silvers and golds. These luxurious metallic colours sparkle and shine in any Christmas setting. Our Silver & Snow Christmas collection is ideal for pulling your elegant Christmas table together. Lay down a white tablecloth and place our shiny silver table runner down the middle, followed by these lovely Snowflake placemats. Add names to these beautiful Silver Tree Snow Globe Christmas place settings for the seating plan. Lay your favourite white plates on top of the placemats, add these fun Christmas Star party napkins and put these silver confetti filled Christmas crackers on top.
Now your stylish silver table has been laid, it’s time to do the Christmas table decorations. We love a foliage runner and this silver foliage Christmas garland will look fabulous when placed down the centre of the table. Mix these tea light holders and large pillar candles on the runner for a warm and inviting Christmas glow. Scatter some Silver Star confetti and use this iridescent Tree Star decoration to centre the table.
Traditional Christmas dinner table decoration
If you are a traditionalist, a Christmas dining table sprouting reds, golds and greens may be for you. Pick out this sparkly gold table runner and lay down this gorgeous berry foliage garland as the centrepiece. Spread gold candles in small, large and sphere around the centrepiece. Surround each candle with these pine cone wreaths for an easy Christmas table decoration.
To set the table, wrap your napkins in these festive holly napkin ring holders and personalise your table places with these fun Christmas holly drinks markers that remind people whose drink is whose. Finish off with these jolly jingle bell crackers, which are perfect to pull just before you tuck into your Christmas dinner.

Put your tablecloth in place, followed by a foliage garland. If you love a bit of DIY, grab some greenery on your winter walks and tie berries and foliage together with some floristry binding wire to make your very own Christmas garland! Can't face the faff? Adorn your Christmas table with our stunning Christmas mistletoe garland and mix in our LED rose gold ribbon to add the 'wow' factor. Lay your plates and place these mistletoe wreath napkins on top.
Now you have the table sorted, you need to add the finishing touches that really make all the difference. Our wooden tree log coasters are ideal for placing candles on. Place several around the table to help create that warm rustic vibe. Other Nature Inspired table decorations that will make your dining table perfect include our embossed tea-light holders, our fir tree table decorations and wooden star table scatter. Christmas table tips
Once you’ve picked your theme and you’re happy with the table, think about other items you can add on or around the table to perfect the room. Dangle some hanging Christmas decorations above the table, such as this wooden mistletoe garland and this silver star hanging decoration. Both will make your table look just magical.
You could also whip up some Christmas punch and keep this handy drink dispenser nearby so you don’t have to keep leaving the table to provide refreshments. We love this festive drink recipe which the whole family can enjoy.
Virtual Christmas Dinner Ideas
We may all be tired of Zoom calls and family quizzes, however, Christmas is an exception. Set up a video call with all the family members you are missing from your table and eat together. While this may seem trivial, it’s the next best thing to having your loved ones nearby. Toast together, open your crackers together and laugh together. Why not send each household similar Christmas decorations, crackers and games so you can share the same experience?
However you spend this Christmas, we hope it’s a jolly one! Check out our full Christmas range and look out for Carole’s Christmas favourites. Fancy a peak at our Christmas catalogue? View it here.
