The garden party edit
Posted on May 29 2020
There is nothing like an afternoon party in an English country garden: think Pimm’s and lemonade, scones with jam and cream, and of course – plenty of tea. If you’ve been working hard on your garden during the spring, summer is the time to enjoy the fruits of your labour; with a garden party among the blooms.
With UK lockdown measures slowly being lifted, and small numbers of people allowed to enjoy time spent in each other’s gardens, why not plan a socially-distanced garden party? Here’s our edit of Party Pieces items that will help to set the scene…
1. For the table
We sell a wide range of summer tablewear, but our ‘Truly Scrumptious’ range is perfect for a traditional English tea party: pop freshly-baked scones on to the 3-tier cake stand, which has reversible layers for extra options. The napkins bring to mind the delicate flowers of Renaissance art, while there are also plates to match. This wooden cutlery with pastel pops works well if you’re serving summer greens salad or Eton Mess. Lay out cucumber sandwiches on the Truly Scrumptious serving platter or go for a simple reusable serving tray in a contrasting block colour (we like pale pink), and mix up your Pimm’s in a big jug. You can set up two matching tables – one for each household – to make social distancing possible while enjoying a delicious tea. If children are part of your social bubble, you can make them up little picnic sets using these blue gingham party boxes, and lay out a rug for them to enjoy their own secret garden tea.
2. For the garden
Whether or not you have a garden planted with fragrant summer blooms, you can create a garden party atmosphere with our range of summer decorations. Our top picks are this rustic country white petal backdrop which really sets the scene, and these surprisingly easy-to-make hanging giant flowers in pastel shades. Adorning the tables each with a string of LED flower string lights will make the occasion really special. This blue polka dot bunting brings a sense of a summer fete to the party, while – if you think the party may go on after dusk – hang out these tea light candle holders in preparation, to light when evening falls.
3. For the entertainment
Summer garden games and activities always go down well with guests old and young alike: we suggest laying out some garden party games such as quoits and noughts & crosses for some socially-distanced family fun. To finish off, instead of having a band playing, you can set up a playlist of jaunty orchestral tunes to play in the background.
